Although the Boone Central girls golf team’s tournament win streak was snapped last week, senior Amy Ahlers kept her sterling unbeaten season intact with a gold medal performance in Wayne’s Metteer Invite.
Ahlers fired a steady 43/42-88 to win her fifth straight tournament (along with first-place finishes in dual and triangular meets) at the Wayne Country Club. Norfolk Catholic’s Paige Marsden took the early lead with a 40 on the opening nine, but faded to a closing 48 and second place (88).
Boone Central sophomore Melissa Kyncl had another strong tourney, placing third with a 44/51-95. Norfolk Catholic’s team depth – three top ten golfers and four overall medalists – was enough to propel the Knights past BC for the team title, however (390-402).
Card freshman Kyley Sorell just missed medaling (top 20) with a 52/55-105 performance. Junior Jessica Tisthammer rounded out BC’s team total with a score of 59/56-115.
