Boone Central/Newman Grove runners are continuing the pace of an impressive 2012 season with no let-up.
Competing in the always-competitive York Invitational Thursday, Sept. 27, the Cardinals won first and second-place trophies and positioned themselves for a strong stretch run of conference, district and state competition.
The York Invite, while not a particularly large meet, is always an excellent test that includes traditionally strong programs York and G.I. Northwest.
Boone Central/Newman Grove, led by gold medalist Calvin Koziol, scored an impressive 17 points in boys competition to edge host York (19), with Northwest (60) and Hastings (62) well back in third and fourth.
The Lady Cardinals, despite missing two of their top runners, took second place behind York (17), nipping Northwest 35-36.
The BC/NG boys had three top-five runners and four in the top ten, while the Card girls placed two in the top ten and had a third miss by just one position.
