Boone Central, three-time defending Class C girls golf state champion, continued another outstanding fall campaign by placing second in the C-3 District tournament at Plainview Oct. 2, qualifying for the 2012 state tournament.
Led by C-3 individual gold medalist Amy Ahlers, undefeated in 2012 events, the Lady Cardinals participated in Class C state competition Monday and Tuesday at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.
Ahlers, Boone Central’s smooth-swinging senior and a member of the 2009-10-11 state title teams, added another accolade to her final high school season at Plainview, easily claiming district champion honors with a 40/41-81 performance.
No other golfer in the tournament broke 90, with Norfolk Catholic’s Paige Marsden placing second at 91.
Cardinal sophomore Melissa Kyncl continued her 2012 role as Ahlers’ steady wingman, placing third individually with an 18-hole score of 92.
While Ahlers and Kyncl were easily the best 1-2 punch by any team in the district event, Norfolk Catholic took the team championship with three top ten medalists and its fourth scoring golfer placing 12th. Catholic finished with a 394 team total to Boone Central’s 407.
Junior Jessica Tisthammer had one of her best days of the 2012 season for the Lady Cards, posting a solid 51/60-111 score and freshman Kyley Sorell completed the team total with a 123. BC’s Paige Krohn shot 166.
