In its final year of allowing development of new irrigated acres, the Lower Loup Natural Resources District (LLNRD) has a record number of applications on hand.
The district received 801 applications during the 20-day application window, Sept. 1 through 20, 2012.
Applications were filed this year for 22,889.24 new irrigated acres in 13 of the NRD’s 16 counties.
However, development of just under 3,000 new irrigated acres will be allowed this year in the district under LB 483, which was passed by the Nebraska Legislature in 2009.
Landowners will be notified of their application’s outcome by Dec. 1, 2012.
