Pipeline hearing draws big crowd

NDEQ staffer discusses the proposed Keystone XL pipeline location with an area resident.An estimated 650 people turned out for a lengthy public hearing on the Keystone XL pipeline in Albion Tuesday evening, Dec. 4. The hearing lasted eight hours, with more than 90 people presenting verbal testimony.
More than 160 people had signed up to testify on the oil pipeline project and its revised route through Nebraska, but many left as the hearing dragged on until 2 a.m.
Of the 94 persons who testified, 72 were opposed to the pipeline and 22 were in favor.
This public hearing provided the last opportunity for verbal testimony on the rerouted 194.5-mile pipeline through Nebraska.
