OPPD to negotiate power purchase from new wind farm in area

Omaha Public Power District last week authorized its management to negotiate a long-term power purchase agreement for 200 megawatts of wind power from the Prairie Breeze Wind Energy Center in Antelope and Boone counties.
This 200-megawatt wind farm near Elgin and Raeville has been on the drawing board since 2007, according to the developer, Invenergy. It received preliminary approval in 2010 from the Nebraska Power Review Board.
The signal from OPPD to begin power purchase negotiations clears another hurdle in the process of bringing the new wind farm to reality.
