With no wind farms under construction during the past year, Boone County’s total building permit values declined substantially in 2012.
The past year’s building permits countywide totaled just $10,790,832, only about 15 percent of the $71.1 million total recorded in 2011.
But 2011 was a banner year for construction that included $56.27 million in value from the Third Planet Windpower wind farm, which was completed and commissioned in October of 2011.
In 2012, St. Edward had a big year for commercial construction due to a $3 million expansion of the Green Plains Renewable Energy elevator (formerly JW Grain), and the City of Albion noted an increase in residential construction values as compared to the previous year.
