Nebraska State Firefighters Association will be honoring three-year-old Cooper DeWitt of Albion on May 17, 2013.
He will receive the 2013 Browning Memorial Award, which is a special award for children from ages one to 16 who are suffering from a life-threatening condition or are severely handicapped.
The award will be presented during opening ceremonies of the Nebraska State Fire School at Grand Island on the morning of May 17.
Cooper, the son of Justin and Jenni DeWitt of Albion, has battled leukemia for the past 13 months after being diagnosed with the disease in February, 2012.
