Cardinal volleyers prepare, send care packages

Coaches and players in the Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball program finished a preseason service project August 7.
“Our theme for the upcoming season is CARDINAL STRONG and we are using several references to the armed services,” said Cardinal Coach Susan Roberts. “So, for our project, we collected donated items to send in care packages to troops overseas.”

Roberts said donations were gathered from various businesses and groups in Albion, Petersburg and Newman Grove and put into 11 care packages sent to troops, including several Nebraska ADT (Agribusiness Development Team) personnel stationed in Afghanistan.
“There was a great response from the communities and the girls had more than enough donations,” Roberts noted. “In fact, we had enough extra to send a few supplies and the remaining cash donations to Operation Care Package – a group based in Illinois that sends packages to troops.
“We were very proud of the response we got from our communities and proud to give something to these very deserving service men and women.”
