That was the theme for Boone Central/Newman Grove Thursday, Oct. 3, at York as the Cardinal cross country teams continued their season-long trend of improving performances.
The BC/NG boys won the York Invitational championship by a solid nine-point margin over the hosts and the Cardinal girls finished runners-up to York.
“It seems like the York meet is always the turning point of our season. It kind of forces the kids to do some things they didn’t think they were ready for,” said Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey. “The course is great and the competition is good, so they don’t really have any excuses anymore.
“The kids responded well to the challenges. The gaps we had worked on closing for the past month closed, so the runners were able to work on competitors together instead of ‘racing solo.’
“I was really proud of Catherine Weeder, as she raced really well on sore knees,” he added.
