The Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals split a pair of volleyball matches this past week, running their 2013 record to 6-11.
BC/NG opened its week at Ord Tuesday, Oct. 1, dropping a 16-25, 17-25, 21-25 decision to a quick Ord team.
“The varsity faced what I feel was the fastest-running offense we’ve seen this year,” said Cardinal Coach Susan Roberts. “We struggled to keep up with their attack in the first set, but steadily improved as the match went on.”
Boone Central/Newman Grove bounced back Thursday to score a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 victory at Battle Creek.
“We played a steady, well-executed match from the start. I thought we were very balanced on offense, getting a lot of hitters involved early,” Roberts noted. “We also continued to play good defense, again getting four ace blocks, some good block touches and making 59 digs.”
