BC/NG harriers 2nd, 3rd in Mid-State

Mixed feelings.
That seemed to be the message coming from the Boone Central/Newman Grove cross country teams following last week’s MidState Conference Championships at Crofton.
Although proud of their efforts, the Cardinals were also hoping for a bit more while pointing toward this week’s important district competition.

“The results didn’t turn out quite as we’d hoped, but I was still really pleased with our performances,” said Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey. “The kids all ran very hard and competed well. We simply have a very tough conference right now.”
The BC/NG boys were team runner-up to host Crofton by a seven-point margin (31-38), while the Lady Cardinals (41) placed third behind Crofton (31) and Wayne (37).
Catherine Weeder (6th), Sheldon Beierman (8th) and Christina Stopak (10th) all placed in the Top 10 in the girls competition and Andrew Rasmussen (5th) and Trevor Salber (8th) were Top 10 runners in the boys race. Freshman Thomas Hosford just missed with an 11th place finish.
“The course was a really tough one, which made it difficult to judge the style of arc technique,” Dickey noted. “Our kids did a great job of being patient and running after their goals.”
