The Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team dropped a hard-fought decision to Hartington Cedar Catholic (17-6), winner of 12 of it’s last 13 matches, in the Cardinals’ 2013 home finale Thursday.
After a 22-25 loss in the opening set, Boone Central/Newman Grove (7-15) fought back to win set two 25-17. The Cardinals could not sustain that momentum, falling 17-25, 12-25 in the final two sets.
Despite the defeat, Coach Susan Roberts was encouraged by her team’s play.
“I was pleased with our performance Thursday,” she commented. “Once again, we had a very solid serve-receive game and I felt we ran our offense really well. I felt we played tough defense, as well.
“We struggled a bit from the service line, which hurt twofold. It gave HCC free points and kept us from building momentum and getting any scoring runs going.”
