Students make packages for troops

Area youths involved in the Building Your Character (BYC) program last summer took part in a community service project last Friday at the Boone County Fairgrounds. They packed 49 boxes of food, personal care items and letters to military personnel with ties to the area.
The third through eighth grade students are involved in the program for three years, learning positive character traits such as kindness, trust and respect for others. High school age counselors helped out, and the Boone County CARE team (Community Advocates Reaching Everyone) sponsored the two-day camp last summer.
A total of 31 campers and counselors were on hand to help make up the “care packages” for some 40 military personnel. All area schools and many local businesses contributed to this effort.
