With an air temperature in the upper 40s and a water temperature of about 33 degrees, conditions were about as good as they get for the 10th annual Toma Rutten Memorial Polar Bear Dip at Mel’s Landing near Cedar Rapids.
A total of 67 “dippers” jumped in the river Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, and most hurried back up the bank to warm up in the hot tub or stand in front of the bon fire.
Other parts of the event, benefitting Cedar Cares for Kids, were a chili cook-off, soup supper and dance.
