The Albion Cornerstone Seniors have not had a rousing offensive start to the 2014 American Legion baseball season. Far from it.
However, no matter the margin of final scores, they all count the same in the win/loss column. And, there, the Cornerstone Seniors have been as successful as possible.
Behind outstanding pitching and stellar defense, Albion began the summer with the most important numbers of all – 3-0.
Albion Cornerstone opened its season with a taut 1-0 victory over Shelton/Gibbon May 26 (details in last week’s Albion News) and backed that with another 1-0 gem against Sutton the following night. The Seniors used their highest run output of the season Thursday to shade visiting Central City 4-3.
In fact, the only thing able to stop Cornerstone from notching W’s so far has been Mother Nature, which intervened with a rainout of Sunday’s scheduled contest at Schuyler.
Albion’s travel bags were packed this week. Cornerstone hoped to resume play last night at Greeley and also have road trips to O’Neill (Wednesday), Burwell (Thursday) and Sutton (Sunday) scheduled.
Albion Cornerstone will next play at home Tuesday, June 10, hosting St. Paul at Leon Nelson Memorial Field at the Albion Sports Complex.
