Continuing the 2014 American Legion baseball campaign, the Albion Cornerstone Legion Seniors chalked up another home-field victory this past week, but came up short on a long road trip to Seward.
Cornerstone clipped St. Paul Tuesday and the week’s split gives the Albion a 6-2 record going into action this week. Cornerstone was scheduled to resume play Tuesday and will host Wayne/Wakefield Thursday at Leon Nelson Memorial Field at the Albion Sports Complex (8:00) before heading to St. Paul Sunday (7:00).
Cornerstone improved to 6-1 Tuesday, June 10, by holding off a late St. Paul rally attempt in a 9-5 win at Leon Nelson Memorial Field.
The Albion Seniors had a good start and forced the visitors to play catch-up throughout the game. St. Paul was not quite up to the task.
Although St. Paul’s three unearned runs Tuesday didn’t hurt Albion, miscues did play a large role in an ugly 13-3 loss at Seward Thursday.
After a 4-1 start to the 2014 summer baseball season, things have gotten just a bit rockier for the Albion Cornerstone Legion Juniors.
The Albion Juniors dropped both of their contests this past week to fall to 5-3. Cornerstone was scheduled to be back in action Tuesday night and host Wayne/Wakefield Thursday at the Albion Sports Complex (5:30) before traveling to St. Paul Sunday for a rematch of one of last week’s losses (4:30).
In a dandy ball game Tuesday at Leon Nelson Memorial Field in Albion, St. Paul got the early upper-hand, scored what turned out to be a key insurance run in the sixth inning, and held off a last Cornerstone rally to notch a 5-4 victory.
The Cornerstone Juniors hoped to bounce back on the road Thursday, but couldn’t contend with a tough host squad in a 10-1 loss.
