As starts go, it couldn’t have been much better for the Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team Thursday at O’Neill.
BC/NG rolled to a straight-set victory over the host Eagles in varsity competition, which followed earlier wins by the Cardinal 9/10 and junior varsity squads.
Clean sweep!
“We had a great start to our season!” Card Coach Susan Roberts commented. “The varsity and JV both played with consistency and executed well. Our 9/10 players started out a little shaky, then settled down to win pretty decisively. We saw some areas we need to focus on improving, but overall we were happy with how we played and proud of the competitiveness and effort from our girls.”
The Cardinal varsity tested O’Neill from the start and its dominance only increased during a 25-18, 25-16, 25-11 victory.
Whitney Wurdeman led a balanced BC/NG attack with 10 kills, while Elissa Slizoski pounded nine and Dana Pelster seven.
The BC/NG JV also defeated O’Neill in straight sets (25-18, 25-16).
Jenna Kramer topped the attack with seven kills while Savannah Wiese totaled 11 assists.
The 9/10 Cardinals rallied from an opening-set loss to top the hosts 13-25, 25-16, 25-18. Nicole Woebbecke and Karin Dultinger each had four kills and Tyanne Johnson served four aces.
