Spalding area residents get financial details on nursing home project

“The more you can raise locally, the stronger this project will be.”
That was the statement from Ron Ross, president of Rural Health Development, Inc. and former director of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Ross and his company manage a total of 24 nursing homes, most of which are located in Nebraska.
About 175 Spalding area residents attended the Sept. 10 meeting on financial aspects of a new nursing home to replace the former Friendship Villa, which closed late in 2011.
Strong support and community interest in a new 30-bed skilled nursing facility was shown at an Aug. 20 information meeting and again at the financial information meeting last Wednesday night.
In financial projections, Ross listed the total building cost at $6.3 million, but he noted that an additional $700,000 would likely be needed in operating and contingency funds through the first six to 12 months. The total needed would be about $7 million.
