Columbus Scotus topped all teams at the Boone Central Invitational golf tournament Saturday, with four medalists overall and three among the top six, as the Shamrocks ran away with the team title.
The individual gold medal came down to a duel between Lakeview’s Kelsey Bignell and Melissa Kyncl of Boone Central, however, with the former’s two sub-40 nine-hole rounds – including a closing 37 – securing first place.
It was still an impressive day for Kyncl. The Cardinal senior shot 40/42-82 for runner-up honors and has now placed 2nd, 1st, 1st and 2nd in her four tournaments in 2014.
Host Boone Central (424) placed sixth in the 10-team event. Junior Kyley Sorell shot 56/52-108 for the Cardinals and Hannah Groth continued her rapid improvement with a 62/51-113. Frosh Lyndsey Figgner, a first-year golfer, also made big gains and posted a 64/57-121 to round out the team score.
