Tough diamond foes drop BC/NG Cardinals

The Boone Central/Newman Grove softball team continues to battle, but came up short in two more contests Monday night at the Albion Sports Complex.
The Cardinals found six runs in their bats against Highway 91, but couldn’t staunch the Cyclones’ attack in a 12-6 loss.
A BC/NG error led to two Highway 91 runs in the top of the second, allowing the Cyclones to take the lead for good, 3-1. The visitors added four in the third and another five in the top of the second to build a 12-2 cushion.
BC/NG had its best inning in the bottom of the fifth. A Highway 91 error, two-run single by Arizona Hager and RBI base hit from Jaclyn Frey closed the gap to 12-6.
It wasn’t any easier against 14-4 Guardian Angels Central Catholic, with the Bluejays pasting BC/NG 12-0 in four innings.
The Cardinals were blanked by the combined efforts of Franzluebbers and Wobken, mustering only a single hit by Shanae Baker. The Bluejays, meanwhile, cracked seven hits and took advantage of eight walks and three BC/NG errors, scoring eight runs in the first inning and pulling away from there.
