The build-up is complete.
Another dominating win.
An 8-0 record.
A #1 state ranking in Class C1.
All that’s left is Thursday’s much-anticipated showdown with undefeated #3 Norfolk Catholic in Albion with the C1-3 District championship on the line.
Friday’s 41-0 victory at Wayne was all about taking care of business. Continuing to fine-tune and improve. Keeping momentum pointed in the right direction.
It was a particularly fine performance by the Cardinal defense, which limited the hosts to just 131 total yards in 50 plays from scrimmage. That’s 2.6 yards per play.
No, that’s not much.
Card Coach Arnie Johnson felt it was a solid performance by his troops against a 3-5 opponent.
“Our defense, after settling down, did a great job stopping the running game of Wayne,” Johnson commented. “Most of Wayne’s yards came early and, after that, our defense really did a good job of limiting their success.
“Our offense had some explosive plays early and that gave us the lead and momentum for the rest of the game.”
BC/NG outyarded Wayne 484-131, with an even 244/240 passing/rushing split, gained 20 first downs to nine for the Blue Devils, and won the turnover battle 4-1.
Those types of stats lead to 41-0 victories.
