When it was time to dig deep, Boone Central senior Melissa Kyncl proved what she was made of.
Sitting in 7th place entering the second day of the 2014 Nebraska Class C Girls State Golf Championships at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Kyncl improved her opening-day score by six strokes and capped her high school career with a 4th place medal.
“I was just thinking, if I get Top 10, that’s awesome,” Kyncl told reporters following Tuesday’s closing round. “It means everything to medal. I feel good.”
A fitting end for a golfer who captured just about every honor possible the past four years.
Kyncl opened the 2014 state championships Monday, Oct. 13, with a 45/47-92 18-hole round in chilly, windy conditions at the challenging Quail Run layout.
Her steady 43/43-86 second round was a two-stroke improvement on the front nine and shaved four strokes off her Monday back nine.
