1st round playoff “tune-up” has Cards set for Norfolk Catholic rematch

Well, it’s what pretty much everyone anticipated. Now, it’s reality.
With overwhelming victories in the first round of the 2014 Nebraska State Football Playoffs, C1 #2 seed Boone Central/Newman Grove and #7 Norfolk Catholic will meet again Friday in a quarterfinal clash in Albion (6 p.m.).
It was just two weeks ago that the Cardinals hosted their Mid-State Conference rival and clinched the C1-5 District championship with a 32-16 victory.
Strap it up – let’s do it again.

Boone Central/Newman Grove will be searching for a fourth straight win over the Knights after an opening-round 48-7 tune-up against visiting Milford-Dorchester Friday.
It was evident from the outset that the Eagles were simply overmatched against BC/NG, which has been ranked #1 in Class C1 since the beginning of the 2014 season.
It played out well for the Cards, who got contributions in all phases of the game and were able to substitute liberally as the contest progressed.
“We had a good start and were able to make some big plays to get out in front,” noted BC/NG Coach Arnie Johnson. “Our defense was able to shut them down and our special teams made some nice plays so that we were able to get a lot of players into the game.
“Now, we are again ready for another very physical game against Norfolk Catholic. It should be a fun experience for all of us.”

The Cardinals were certainly the ones having the fun this past Friday.
