Boone County’s inaugural “Big Give” event was a huge success last Friday, Dec. 5, and 12 charitable organizations across the county will benefit.
Based on preliminary totals, the 12 hours of giving brought in more than $171,000 from more than 670 individual contributors.
“This is just beyond our wildest dreams, and we’re very thankful for the generosity of everyone who contributed,” said Jay Wolf, a member of the Boone County Philanthropy Council, which spearheaded the event. Tina Stokes is coordinator of the Philanthropy Council.
Gifts on Friday were supported with an additional $13,000 in matching funds contributed by platinum sponsors Cornerstone Bank, Pillen Family Farms and Valero Renewables, and gold sponsors Jeff and Stephanie Beckwith and The Maschhoffs.
Organizations receiving funds are:
– Albion Area Arts Council to support the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre production of Little Red Riding Hood;
– Albion Education Foundation to support Boone Cenetral and St. Michael’s student grants;
– Albion Public Library to support its digitized microfilm project for local history research;
– Boone Central TeamMates to support its annual Henry Doorly Zoo trip;
– Boone County Area Foundation to support its annual grant program;
– Boone County Fitness Center for new equipment;
– Boone County Food Pantry for food/personal hygiene products;
– Boone County Historical Society for restoration of an antique buggy on display;
– Boone County Health Center Foundation for its CarePartners Program;
– Cedar Valley Community Foundation for its annual programming;
– Good Samaritan Society, Albion, for construction of its new wing;
– Petersburg Community Club for a downtown park renovation project.
