BC/NG wrestlers drop pair of duals

The Boone Central/Newman Grove wrestling team is still catching up after a late practice start, and injuries and illness also took a toll last week as the Cardinals dropped a pair of dual decisions on their home mat.
BC/NG hosted an always-tough G.I. Northwest squad Tuesday, Dec. 9, with the Vikings claiming a 57-24 victory. The Cardinals got wins by Jesse Osantowski and Jacob Krings in two of the first four matches before Northwest rattled off five victories in a row to take a commanding lead.

“We competed with them better than we did last year,” Card Coach Dale Bonge commented. “Northwest is always a dangerous team with big-move capabilities. They had a few of those in this dual.
“We believe we are capable of turning the tables on a few of the losses we had, but will have to wait until the district tournament to find out.”

Boone Central/Newman Grove was on the verge of picking up its first team victory of the season Thursday before Creighton rallied for a 42-34 decision with three straight wins and a double-forfeit in the final four matches.
“The final outcome was not what we wanted, but the team effort, win or lose, was an improvement from Thursday,” Bonge said. “Two guys in particular, Andy King and Levi Krueger, showed a lot of heart despite eventually getting pinned by highly-regarded Bulldogs.
“Injuries and illness caused five wrestlers to be unable to participate, leaving us without a wrestler in three weight classes,” Bonge acknowledged. “We’d like to get another crack at them with a fully-healthy team.”
