More horses confiscated at Majerus farm

Nebraska Humane Society photos of two horses taken from the Majerus farm.A total of 13 horses were taken over a three-day period last week from a Boone County pasture west of Petersburg.
The pasture near 145th Street is owned by Jim Majerus, who was convicted of misdemeanor animal neglect last June.
Sheriff Denny Johnson said private citizens, who wished to remain anonymous, had contacted his office and the County Attorney’s office with complaints about the number and condition of horses on the Majerus property.
In turn, the County Attorney’s office contacted the Nebraska Humane Society and a search warrant was obtained.
The Sheriff inspected the property early last week, and accompanied a Nebraska Humane Society team to the property.
The 13 horses were taken over three days — Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 17-19 — to Humane Society holding facilities near Omaha.
The Humane Society had completed its assessment of the horses by Monday, Dec. 22, and planned to forward it to the Boone County Attorney.
