Cardinals, St. Edward vie in 2015 Mansfield Invite

Cody Nelson, BC/NGFollowing Boone Central/Newman Grove’s successful season-opening track and field performance of 2015 March 31 at Madison, Cardinal Coach Kris Pestel noted that her charges needed to keep working hard and improving.
The Cards didn’t have much turnaround time prior to Thursday’s Mansfield Invite in Albion, but again produced solid early-season results and left Pestel feeling her teams are on track.

“Once again, we had a great day for a meet. We had some very good performances for early in the season, but we have to keep striving to get better.
“We were able to get all of our kids into several events, as this meet is unlimited team entry with a maximum of four events per athlete. Our older kids did a great job leading and assisting our younger kids on how to warm up and approach their races and events. This leadership will help us be better in the future.
“With the Madison triangular and now Mansfield, we were able to get a great deal of our athletes into several events to get a baseline to build on. We look forward to the upcoming meets to see where we stand against other Class B teams.”

Boone Central/Newman Grove was quite dominant Thursday, winning 12 girls’ events and 11 boys’ events. St. Edward was the other area school involved and got a pair of event wins in the boys’ competition, along with additional solid efforts.
