School Board approves new reading programs

New reading programs for both elementary and secondary grades were approved by the Boone Central Board of Education during its regular meeting Monday night, April 13.
Reading improvement is a special focus of the school district, and the new programs have been reviewed during the past several months by the faculty and administration.
A program called Reading Wonders was purchased for the elementary grades at a cost of $59,153. For secondary grades, a program known as Collections was purchased at a cost of $55,243.
A Corrective Reading Intervention program, for all grade levels, was also purchased at a cost of $6,900.
The programs include all materials and software, and will be implemented during the coming school year.
Four new faculty hirings and two resignations were also approved by the board.
