A good crowd was present at the annual Memorial Day program presented by American Legion Post 334. Commander Hank Thieman welcomed those gathered by thanking them for taking time to attend. He said, “It means a lot to us and to them.”
This was followed by advancement of colors, National Anthem by Scott and Stephanie Wright, Invocation by Don Friese who asked everyone to remember those who had made the ultimate sacrifice and asked for God’s unique blessing for our troops and their families.
Commander Thieman recognized Leonard Wirges of Rantoul, IL and Lavern Nissen, both WW II veterans.
Special guests speaker was Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Clyde Stuhr, a Petersburg native.
Thieman also recognized Ferd Schrage with a special pin to commemorate his 60 years of continuous membership in the American Legion.
