A tough Shelton nine scored an 8-2 victory over Albion Cornerstone in American Legion Seniors play at the the Albion Sports Complex’s Leon Nelson Memorial Field Sunday.
The visitors used a five-run second inning to jump on top of Albion early, then rode the combined pitching effort of Gareth Stroh and Tanner Gideon to the win.
Stroh singled and scored in the first, then added another single and run during the second-inning burst. Ryan Neujahr and Derreck Ellis jumpstarted that second with consecutive RBI doubles off Cornerstone starter Colton Pelster. Stroh followed with his base hit and Shelton used three ensuing walks, four stolen bases and a passed ball to take a 6-0 lead.
Scott Ketteler took over mound duties for the hosts and limited Shelton to single runs in the sixth and seventh, but Cornerstone could muster just two runs of its own in the contest.
