Rain, hail deluge causes crop damage

Storm drainage filled the streets and went over the curbs in downtown Albion.A storm packing heavy rain, hail and strong wind caused crop damage to the north, south and west of Albion last Friday afternoon, July 31.
The storm hit Albion about 2:30 p.m. and lasted less than an hour.
Early estimates on Monday placed the hail and wind damage path at two to three miles wide and up to 10-12 miles long, stretching from west of Loretto, through Albion and southeast to near the Boone Road. Some hail damage was also reported east of Cedar Rapids.
