Card softball team garners third win

After dropping a 13-0 decision to York, which scored 11 first-inning runs, the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals bounced back to split two competitive contests in the Lakeview softball tournament at Columbus Saturday.
BC/NG (3-15) used a nine-run burst in the fourth inning to propel a 14-11 victory over Duchesne. The Omaha squad outhit the Cardinals 15-12, but committed six errors in the game. Boone Central/Newman Grove’s big fourth rallied the Cards from a 7-5 deficit. Duchesne tallied four runs in the sixth before the Cardinals shut the door for their third win of the season.

Boone Central/Newman Grove concluded the day with a heartbreaking 12-11 loss to Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in eight innings.
Trailing 6-0, BC/NG got on the board in the bottom of the second when Paige Ketteler’s single drove in Frey and Kaumans. M/H/LHF built a 9-3 advantage before the Cardinals again fought back with a six-run sixth inning. The Bulldogs outscored BC/NG 3-2 in the eighth to claim the victory.
