The Boone Central/Newman Grove volleyball team culminated the second week of the 2015 season with a scrappy, successful performance in its own Boone Central Invitational, which the Cardinals hope will give them momentum going forward.
BC/NG twice rallied from 0-1 deficits to win two of three matches in Saturday’s competition, placing fifth in the eight-team field.
“We are really pleased with the level of play in Saturday’s tournament,” Card Coach Susan Roberts said. “With a few exceptions here and there, we played at a very high level all day, competed hard throughout our matches and handled some high-pressure situations very well.
“I felt like we really got our attack going, with some aggressive hitting and smart plays. Our service game was a little shaky at times, but we’re working on being more aggressive with our serves. With that, there are going to be more errors as we get each of our servers into their rhythm.
“Overall, on the day, we were consistent with serve receive and I felt our effort and attitude was outstanding in all three matches.”
