Everything fell in place at Atkinson Friday to produce impressive Boone Central/Newman Grove cross country performances in the West Holt Invitational.
The Cardinal girls continued their 2015 run of success with a fourth straight invitational championship and the BC/NG boys showed great improvement in their best outing of the season.
It all left Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey happy with the present and excited about the future.
“We had an exceptional day!” Dickey exclaimed. “I’m not sure if it was the weather or what, but we saw some outstanding improvement.”
The Lady Cardinals ran away from their competition, outpacing runner-up O’Neill by 26 points with 2-3-4 individual finishes by Ashlynn Baker, Christina Stopak and Taylor Starman, along with medal performances by Katie Goodwater and Hannah Schmitz.
The good news didn’t end there for BC/NG. The Card boys placed a season-best third, led by three top-twenty runners – Thomas Hosford (6th), Will Dyer (12th) and Al Bader (18th).
“The boys showed ‘shake-of-the-head’ improvement!” Dickey praised. “They just ran very smart races, letting other teams go out hard and kill themselves off.”
