As Boone Central/Newman Grove’s lone soldier at the 2016 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships, Cardinal senior Jacob Krings concluded his career with a gritty performance in three exciting, competitive matches.
Krings (28-12) finished 1-2 in those matches, but was only a few slim points from being in medal contention.
“Jacob was very competitive in all his matches,” acknowledged BC/NG Coach Dale Bonge. “He lost his first match 8-7 to the eventual fifth-place finisher. Jacob lost a couple of scramble situations at critical times that proved to be the difference.
“In his second match, Jacob controlled the action throughout most of the match, eventually pinning the guy with a half-nelson. Jacob pressed the action most of his last match. Behind 5-3 with a short time left, he was countered on a takedown attempt. That opponent went on to place third.”
Class B 220 pounds: Taylor (McCook) dec. Krings, 8-7; Krings pinned McClanahan (Blair), 4:28; Gutzmer (Scotus) dec. Krings, 7-3.
