Crew from Rutjens Construction repairs the water main serving west Petersburg last Friday.
Petersburg residents and businesses west of Highway 14 were out of water from about 11 a.m. Thursday morning to 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, due a leaking water main.
It required a large backhoe to repair. Rutjens Consruction of Tilden was called on Thursday to try to locate the damaged pipe, but they could not get to Petersburg until Friday.
According to Eric Petsche, Petersburg utilities superintendent, the cause of the water leak was a large hole in the main line just off Highway 14.
A shut-off was added near the damaged pipe.
Since it affected a large area of town, Petersburg Fire Hall was opened so residents could fill water containers.
