Lightning from a March 23 storm in the area damaged electronics in the new county communications tower, according to Sheryl Machacek, county communications manager.
The Sheriff’s Department still has radio communication through its high-band frequency, but the low band (39.9) was rendered temporarily unusable. The high band can also be used by fire, rescue and other law enforcement in the county.
