The Boone Central/Newman Grove boys golf team began its 2016 spring campaign with a pair of competitions at the Ord Country Club this past week.
The Cardinals teed the season off April 5 with a dual against host Ord High School.
The Ord varsity, with all golfers shooting sub-40 nine-hole rounds, took the victory with a team score of 149, and the Chants’ JV carded a team total of 185. The Boone Central/Newman Grove varsity posted a team score of 187 and the Card JV finished at 265.
Joel Meyer led BC/NG with a 42 over the Ord C.C. nine-hole layout. Blake Olnes was right behind with a 43, followed in varsity scoring by Nathan Gottier (50), Bryton Fowlkes (52) and Garrett Cornwell (53). BC/NG JV scores were by Braden Anderson (56), Mack Nelson (68), Garret Niewohner (69), Tyson Haddix (72), and Kade Noble (77).
Boone Central/Newman Grove returned to Ord Friday for the annual Ord Invitational.
Host Ord claimed the team title with an 18-hole total of 304, followed by G.I. Central Catholic at 319. BC/NG placed fifth with a team score of 407.
The Cardinals did not have anyone in the Top 15 medalists, as Blake Olnes (93) led BC/NG by finishing 19th. Nathan Gottier (98) was 22nd among individuals. Ord’s Brady Rogers was the meet gold medal winner, firing a 70 with rounds of 37-33. Tucker Krzycki (73) of GICC was runner-up.
