Voters to decide on half-cent sales tax

Albion City Council is considering a proporsal for renewal of a one-half cent city sales and use tax.Did You Know? The City of Albion already has a one-half cent local option sales tax in effect, which has paid for the new Fire Station, Fire Equipment & Maintenance over the past nine years. The current one-half cent sales tax is set to expire in September, 2016.
In the May 10 Primary Election, Albion voters will be asked to approve renewal of a one-half cent sales tax for the next 10 years. The renewed sales tax would raise approximately $200,000 per year, primarily for property tax relief.
Under the new plan, these funds would be used for the following purposes:
• 50 percent ($100,000 annually) for Pool Bond Property Tax Relief.
• 30 percent ($60,000 annually) for Albion Fire Department building, equipment & maintenance.
• 10 percent ($20,000 annually) for Police building, equipment & maintenance.
• Five percent ($10,000 annually) for City Hall building,
equipment & maintenance.
• Five percent ($10,000 annually) for Library building &
maintenance.
Please vote in the May 10 Primary to help decide
this sales tax question.
