Albion Cornerstone Juniors 3-1 following sweep

The Albion Cornerstone Legion Juniors bounced back from a loss to Lakeview Thursday, sweeping the Columbus Reds in a Memorial Day doubleheader at Leon Nelson Memorial Field in Albion.
The Cornerstone Juniors improved to 3-1 with the victories.

The visiting Columbus Reds put together a seven-run inning in the day’s opener, but Cornerstone rallied in the bottom of the fifth to eke out a 9-8 victory.
With Dylan Gentrup doubling and scoring, Cornerstone took a 3-0 lead in the first and boosted that to 6-1 in the fourth, as Will Frey and Ranslem smacked doubles.
Columbus tallied seven times in the top of the fifth to take an 8-6 lead, but the Albion Juniors fought back in the bottom of the frame. Sullivan and Ranslem both singled and scored to knot the score and Henry scored the winning run, crossing the plate on a Columbus error.
Nelson worked around two walks in the top of the sixth to set the visitors down and secure the win.
Albion Cornerstone finished the sweep with a 7-2 victory in game two.
Columbus edged in front 1-0 in inning two and Cornerstone tied the score in the third on Nelson’s run.
The Albion Juniors took the lead for good with Gentrup’s run in the fourth, then crossed the plate four times in the bottom of the fifth. Nelson scored his second run of the game in the frame, Ethan Dozler and Martinsen each singled and scored, and Henry’s double drove in Gentrup to put Cornerstone on top 6-1.
Columbus added one run in the top of the sixth and Albion matched it with a run by Frey in the bottom of the inning. Gentrup then shut down the visitors in the seventh to end the contest and earn the victory.
