Fern Medlin receives Living Auxiliary honor

Fern Medlin, a longtime member of Albion American Legion Auxiliary Unit 162, was honored with the annual “Living Auxiliary Member” award on Memorial Day, May 31. The award was presented by Merle Klassen.
A ceremonial flag-raising and plaque presentation were held in her honor at the Albion downtown mini-park immediately after the Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday.
Mrs. Medlin was born at Coleridge on Sept. 11, 1932, and graduated from high school there in May of 1950. She then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she earned her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in Albion.
She and her husband, the late Ray Medlin, a Korean War veteran, were married at Coleridge on Nov. 18, 1956. They made their home in Albion, where they raised three children. Fern now has six grandchildren.
Fern assisted her husband in his law practice. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 162 for 58 years, where she held several offices.
