Americans should honor their fallen heroes by getting involved, volunteering and finding ways to improve their communities, states and nation.
That was a primary message at the 2016 Memorial Day service on a warm and sunny day outside the Boone County Courthouse on Monday, May 31.
Tom Briese, candidate for the District 41 seat in the Nebraska Legislature, gave brief remarks as the keynote speaker.
“Today, we gather to honor and remember . . . the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our liberty and the values we hold dear,” said Briese. He recalled his past year of campaigning through the nine-county 41st District to discuss important issues with constituents.
“All these issues . . would most likely be meaningless if not for the sacrifices of those we honor today,” Briese said.
Local veterans’ groups presented the program. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts distributed flowers, courtesy of Timeless Floral, Rentals & Decor, to all women in the audience.
