Heavy winds cause extensive tree damage

An intense thunderstorm Wednesday night, July 6, caused extensive tree damage in the Albion area. Albion's Fuller Park was among the most heavily damaged areas, with several large branches on the ground Thursday morning.

An intense thunderstorm Wednesday night, July 6, caused extensive tree damage in the Albion area.
Albion’s Fuller Park was among the most heavily damaged areas, with several large branches on the ground Thursday morning.
One large branch smashed into a swing set, crushing half of it.
Branches of various sizes were brought down throughout the residential areas.
The storm brought one to 1 1/2 inches of rain in the Boone County area. Winds of up to 60 to 65 miles per hour were reported from the line of thunderstorms that moved in from the west / northwest.
City crews were removing the larger branches from residential streets on Thursday morning and expected to begin sawing and hauling away the fallen limbs at the park by Thursday afternoon, said Andrew Devine, city administrator.
