Area crop conditions good to excellent

Crop conditions remained mostly good to excellent in the Boone County area last week.
Corn and soybean crops were near average development or slightly ahead of the average. The area received only small amounts of rainfall last week.
Statewide, temperatures averaged near normal for the week ending Aug. 7 as cooler conditions arrived the last half of the week, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Precipitation of an inch or more was limited to portions of the southeast and some central areas. In the west, Panhandle producers were preparing for winter wheat planting.
Irrigation was active in many counties. Corn crop condition was 76 percent good to excellent, and soybean condition was 77 percent good to excellent.
