A new welding program at Boone Central High School began as an idea more than a year ago to help connect local students with possible careers in area businesses and industries.
The school has a Career Academies Program and is always looking for ways to expose students to local employment opportunities.
At the same time, area employers were saying they had job openings for qualified welders that they had trouble filling.
The new welding program, set to start Aug. 22 at Boone Central, is intended to provide the training to meet that need and more.
