Barbecues and music go together, and both will be featured in downtown Albion this Saturday, Aug. 27, at the seventh annual Rhythm & Ribs.
Grilling contestants will be here early that morning to start preparing their specialties, and the festival will be underway.
Gates will open on Fourth Street at 8 a.m., and music will start at 10 a.m. with Mike Thiem serving as DJ until 2 p.m. Also starting at 10 a.m. will be the life-size beer pong and cornhole tournaments.
Registrations are open for four-person teams in life-size beer pong and two-person teams in the cornhole (bean-bag) tournament.
Reigning champion in the life-size beer pong is the team of Tom Mangus, Dave Dubas, Sever Paulson and Steve Paulson.
Barbecue sampling will begin at 12 noon and continue until the judging at 4:30 p.m.
Grilling teams will be competing for $2,200 in total prize money, and more than 20 grilling teams are expected to compete.
As in past years, a large crowd is expected for the afternoon to sample the wide variety of foods to be prepared by the grilling contestants. An even larger crowd is expected for the 6 p.m. rib dinner and cream can supper.
