The Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals had an exciting and successful start to the 2016 volleyball season Thursday with a four-set victory at Mid-State Conference foe O’Neill.
Boone Central/Newman Grove opened with a 27-25 win in a tight first set and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win in set two. The host Eagles fought back to take a 25-23 decision in the third, but BC/NG controlled the fourth (25-17) to seal the match victory.
“We came out with good execution and played aggressively right from the start,” praised Cardinal Coach Susan Roberts. “We struggled with errors in the third set, but rebounded well and kept working hard.
“Our timing on offense keeps improving and we were very aggressive from the service line, tallying 11 aces.”
