Groth, Figgner medalists in BC Invite golf

It was a beautiful day for golf and a banner day for the Boone Central Cardinals.
Cardinal golfers turned in their best performance of the season in Saturday’s Boone Central Invitational at the Albion Country Club, placing fourth in team standings behind 6th place medalist Hannah Groth and 7th place medalist Lyndsey Figgner.
Boone Central’s team total of 431 was its best tournament score of the season by 67 strokes.
Battle Creek (401) wrested the team championship from Scotus (402), but Shamrock Emerson Belitz (91) won individual medalist honors in a tiebreaker with Battle Creek’s Taylor Finke (91).
Groth led Boone Central with a 98 on nine-hole rounds of 49/49. Figgner was also solid and consistent, recording a 100 with rounds of 51/49.
Cardinal Ashley Mewhirter was just five strokes from a medal, shooting 110 to finish 21st among individuals. Rounding out Boone Central’s 431 team score was Maggie Cleveland (123). April Johnson of Boone Central finished with a 131 total.
