Befitting a team that was runner-up in the conference tournament, district champion and a state tournament qualifier, the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals had two players named Mid-State All-Conference in voting by league coaches this past week.
Cardinal seniors Jessie Sullivan and Dylan Gentrup joined eight other Mid-State standouts on the 2018 All-Conference team. Sullivan led BC/NG in scoring (17.2), rebounding (9.4) and blocked shots (1.3) while shooting 58% from the field this past season. Gentrup was among BC/NG’s leaders in scoring (16.1), rebounds (4.4), assists (3.8), steals (2.3) and free throw percentage (74%).
Fellow Cardinal senior Cody Nelson received Mid-State Honorable Mention after averaging 8.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals in 2017-18.
The Boone Central/Newman Grove Lady Cardinals had two players receive Mid-State Honorable Mention in coaches’ voting.
Sophomore Lauren Hedlund led BC/NG in scoring (13.4), while averaging 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.8 steals. Junior Carsen Grape averaged 7.6 points, and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 47% from the field this past season.
